About this promotion

Happiful’s annual poetry prize is a free-entry writing competition looking for original poems about mental health or wellbeing, with publication opportunities alongside the cash and book-token prizes.

Can I enter?

You must be aged 18 or over and resident in the United Kingdom. The competition is free to enter, limited to one entry per person, and the poem must be original, previously unpublished, written in English, and no more than 25 lines long excluding the title.

How to enter

  1. Read the official prize page and full terms before preparing your submission.
  2. Submit one original poem about mental health or wellbeing together with the requested details, including your name, email address, postcode, short biography, and your poem file in Word or PDF format.
  3. Make sure your work does not use generative AI and that you submit it before 11.59pm on 30 October 2026.

What you can win

The winner receives £100 and four shortlisted poets each receive a £25 National Book Token. The winning and shortlisted poems are expected to be published in issue 120 of Happiful.

Every valid entrant is also due to receive a complimentary place on an online poetry webinar led by Sophie Dumont in partnership with the Rebecca Swift Foundation.

Why this one is different

This is not a quick form-fill sweepstakes: the real task is producing a poem that fits the theme and formal rules. That makes the full terms especially important before you upload anything.

Happiful says the winner and four shortlisted poets will be contacted by 28 February 2027, so this is a slower editorial selection process rather than an immediate prize draw.
