Platforms and agencies behind giveaways

Why many promotions run on third-party platforms, and how to tell a genuine one from an imitation.

Brands often outsource the mechanics

A brand rarely builds its own entry system. Many promotions run on specialist platforms and promotion agencies that provide the form, the code validation, the random draw and the hosting of the official rules. The page you enter on may therefore sit on a different domain from the brand's own website. That is normal, as long as the brand links to it or the rules name the agency.

How to recognize a genuine setup

Open the brand's official site and look for a link to the promotion, rather than following a link in a message. Check that the organizer named in the rules matches the brand and that the rules are hosted on a clear page or PDF. Agencies often host the official rules on their own domain, and that is acceptable when the page identifies the organizer and the dates.

Types of platforms

Some tools provide contest forms and entry widgets, others manage instant-win games, and agencies run national campaigns on packaging, receipts or broadcasts. Social media contests run inside the network itself. Each type collects data in a different way, so read the privacy notice shown next to the entry form.

Warning signs

Be careful with a page that asks you to log in with a social account you did not expect, to share personal documents, to pay a fee, or to reshare the post to unlock the entry. A promotion with no named organizer, no territory and no end date is hard to verify. Our guide to checking whether a giveaway is legitimate lists more checks.

How Giveario handles them

Giveario links to the official rules and the entry page, names the organizer and the platform when the rules do, and does not publish promotions whose rules cannot be read. Some platforms block automated readers or require cookie choices, and in those cases a promotion may not appear in the catalog even though it is real. We do not receive entries, so anything you submit goes to the organizer or its agency.
