Read the selection process
Campaigns use giveaway, sweepstakes, competition and promotion in different ways. Find the rule explaining how a recipient is selected before deciding how much effort to spend. A headline alone cannot establish whether the mechanism uses chance, judging or a reward for every qualifying purchase.
These are practical reading categories. The legal classification depends on the actual rules and jurisdiction, rather than a catalog label.
Sweepstakes: selection among eligible entries
Look for the drawing process, prize count, selection date and combined entry limits. Submitting an eligible entry does not guarantee a prize. When the total eligible entry pool is unknown, prize count alone is insufficient to calculate a specific chance of winning.
A tip about entering at a particular hour needs support in the published mechanism. Timing a submission differently is not a general winning strategy.
Contests: a submission may be assessed
A campaign may request a photo, written answer or activity. Check judging criteria, format, rights to submitted work and any voting stages. A correct answer may only qualify you for a later drawing, so read all stages before classifying the mechanism.
Weigh the preparation time and the rights you grant. Do not submit someone else's work as your own. An unfamiliar judging process is a reason to investigate, not to assume the winner is chosen randomly.
Guaranteed rewards still have conditions
A reward may require a purchase, validation, available stock or a claim by a deadline. The Spanish Eurorepar campaign describes a reward for a validated purchase without a drawing. That is a worked example of the distinction, not a statement that readers elsewhere are eligible.
Instant-win promotions may have limited prizes and a separate allocation mechanism. They are not automatically rewards for every entrant.
Ask these three questions
- Does every validated entry receive a reward, or only selected entries?
- Are those entries selected by chance, judging or another stated mechanism?
- What purchase, work, evidence and deadlines does each stage require?
If you cannot answer, consult the official rules before proceeding. Giveario includes different kinds of promotions and shows purchase requirements. The official source takes priority over the label.
